Throw the Magic Keyboard a quick glance and you may not notice its refinements. The most prescient feature of the Magic Keyboard is its unequivocal design. It’ll make your desk look pristine and minimalist just by being there. The Magic Keyboard holds a special spot in my book as the most beautiful keyboard on the market.
Apple’s latest keyboard is a declaration of speed, precision, and size, and I doubt you’ll find a more forward-thinking keyboard on the market today. I’ve been flat out surprised by how close the Apple Magic Keyboard has come to replacing my favorite Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad.
But that doesn’t mean Apple’s latest Magic won’t measure up for you. And the Magic Trackpad 2 is set to replace the Magic Trackpad, which itself garnered a standard “OK”, but never came close in my book to the features of a trusty mouse.Īfter all is said and done, I won’t be changing my peripherals at this point in time. The Magic Keyboard has been introduced as a replacement for the very-widely loved Wireless Keyboard, and in extension the Keyboard with Numeric Keypad. You could say Apple’s latest peripherals have their work cut out for them. Right off the bat, the Magic Trackpad 2 was fighting an uphill battle. But under just about every aspect, a trackpad doesn’t offer the precision, the comfort, and the speed of a standard mouse. Apple’s trackpads are the best on the market, hands down. I’ve never been fond of a trackpad at all, instead opting for a physical mouse whenever possible. Trackpads are a different narrative altogether. It too loses the battery housing, but picks up almost 30% more surface area. The Apple Magic Trackpad 2, on the other hand, has grown considerably in size. By eliminating the battery housing and making more efficient use of space, the Magic Keyboard looks like a more tightened product. The greatly improved Magic Trackpad 2 sells for RM599. The Magic Keyboard retails for RM469, while the Magic Mouse 2 retails for RM379. This is becoming a trend from the Apple announcements today, and users can expect to pay top dollar. Unfortunately, the improvements on the peripherals have also resulted in a price increase. The Magic Trackpad 2 now also supports the Force Touch from the MacBook trackpads. Users now have the option to click anywhere on the trackpad by tapping, which is apparently an improvement over the previous model.
The Trackpad itself is now narrower and longer, with the actual trackpad covering most of its surface. The left and right directional keys are substantially lengthened, and now fill the empty space above them.įinally, the Magic Trackpad 2 is an entirely new design. The keys are also slightly widened by reducing the air gap between the keys and the chassis while a few keys are also redesigned. This provides for a smaller angle on the keys, which results in a more laptop-like typing experience. The Magic Keyboard takes advantage of the battery change by reducing its thickness.
